Chicago Tribune article reveals Goldstone 2009 report to United Nations about Gaza invasion was wrong. And what a furor it caused! It said: “Israeli soldiers deliberately targeted Palestinian civilians during its invasion of Gaza.” Not true. Now there is proof!

In an op-ed to the Washington Post, Richard Goldstone now explains there is proof that the opposite is true and that he “hoped that our inquiry into all aspects of the Gaza conflict would begin a new era of evenhandedness at the UN Human Rights Council, whose history of bias against Israel cannot be doubted.”

The piece goes on to say: “So what do we know? Israel didn’t target civilians. Hamas did. It sent hundreds of rockets into Israeli towns.” And Israel has suffered the consequences of this 575-page “bombshell” for two years. Will the UN now begin to treat involved parties fairly?

Go live in Israel a couple of years like I did in 1970-71. Get a reality check of what is really going on. I spent a lot of time in the old city of Jerusalem. Arabs and Jews can get along–did get along. This extremism has to go–but how to get rid of it? I wish I knew.

I taught English to Israeli and Bedouin children and loved them all. It was a relatively quiet time, a period of cease-fire. I needed to be alert but wasn’t in fear of someone using himself as a human bomb.

Times have changed. There is no going back, of course. But what does the future hold? How can there be peace when one side believes that firing rockets into Israeli cities with the intent to kill Israelis is “a right of self-defense…” Hamas totally believes that this is the perfectly correct thing to do.

Where do we go from here?
